360 Degree Assessments

SPA developed and utilized some of the first 360-degree instruments in the military services for Special Operations personnel and have decades of experience in this area.

A 360 Degree Assessment collects information about leaders’ behaviors from the leaders themselves as well as from a sample of their seniors, peers, and subordinates; thus, giving a full view of their leadership behavior. The information collected is confidential in two ways.  First, the results are reported back only to the target leaders being evaluated; no one else within their organization will have access to the results at any time.  Second, the identities of the raters providing the information are protected.  All scores are reported as averages, so that raters’ comments and opinions remain anonymous.

The purpose of this survey for the leaders is twofold.  The greatest strength of a 360 Degree Assessment is to help leaders develop self-awareness.  Leaders are given the opportunity to see how they view themselves compared to how coworkers view them.  Self-awareness is having an objective view of your behaviors and being able to see yourself as others may see you, which is vital to knowing yourself and your limitations.  Positive correlations between self-awareness and performance have been repeatedly shown.  Furthermore, the 360 Degree Assessment can provide honest, developmental feedback about a leader’s relative strengths and weaknesses.  Everyone is stronger at some things than others, and this type of knowledge can help leaders focus their energy on what most needs improvement.

SPA has developed a number of individualized 360 Degree Assessment instruments for targeted organizations and requirements within the military, including special operations. More often though, we utilize off-the-shelf 360 Degree Assessment instruments at significant cost savings to the client. We will work with you to meet your developmental needs within your financial constraints.
